Regardless of what industry you are in, if you are in an office where there is a bad atmosphere, you are never able to fulfil as much work as you would possibly want. - Michael Stewart - Hearts FC

GOVERNANCE OF SCOTTISH HOUSING ASSOCIATIONS

The pilot of the qualification started on Wednesday March 26th when a group of committee members came along to SHARE to an induction day and were allocated an Assessor and an Internal Verifieras well as given lots of information about the qualification and a portfolio to build up with evidence from their job as a committee member.

Watch this space for more information as time goes on....

Introduction

SHARE is pleased to offer GOVERNANCE OF SCOTTISH HOUSING ASSOCIATIONS, a new qualification for governing body members of housing associations in Scotland.

Successful completion of the qualification will lead to the award of a Certificate recognised by the Scottish Qualifications Authority(SQA).

The qualification is for all committee members but it is recommended that candidates have served on the committee for at least a year.

The qualification is based on a vocational qualification format - that is, you gather evidence of your knowledge of your responsibilities and show that you understand your role and responsibilities as a Committee member

What’s involved?

Candidates will attend an induction day at SHARE. This will introduce them to the qualification, answer questions, explain the methods of assessment, register them with SQA and suggest the best ways to gather evidence.

Candidates will build a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate that they meet the requirements of the qualification. Each candidate will have an Assessor who will meet with them to assess their evidence and offer help and guidance in developing their portfolio.

In addition we strongly recommend that candidates have the support of someone in the organisation, this could be the Director, a senior staff member or Administration Manager. This support is essential to help candidates gain access to the evidence and information they need to build their portfolio.

How is it structured?

Governance of Scottish Housing Associations has three units

Unit 1 – Work to Achieve Good Governance of the Housing Association
Unit 2 – Contribute Effectively to Governing Body Meetings
Unit 3 – Prepare Yourself to Deliver Good Governance of the Housing Association

Candidates have to complete all three units in order to obtain the Certificate

How long will it take?

It is hard to predicate as candidates will accumulate evidence at their own pace but we estimate the qualification could take anything from six months to a year.

How much does it cost?

Doing the qualification will cost

£ 675 for members
£ 825 for non members

This covers attendance at the induction day, registration and accreditation with SQA, materials and assessment visits and on going support.
