Who’s it for and what’s it about?

This workshop is suitable for Committee/Board members who what to learn a range of techniques for making sound decisions.

Making good decisions is one of the most important functions of a board or committee and it can also be one of the riskiest. Making sound decisions involves more than a judgement call based on experience and knowledge. Decisions often fail or have unintended consequences because the best alternatives are not clear at the outset, or key factors are not considered as part of the process. Decisions that involve complex issues require both problem solving and decision making skills.

The course will use a case study approach to encourage discussion and will consider a range of problem solving and decision-making tools and techniques.

Learning Outcomes:

  • How to start a discussion?
  • Looking at the range of choices that you have to make a decision
  • The impact of the decision on other people
  • Tools that you can use with your group to help future decisions
