Modern Apprentice at West Highland Housing
Leona Currie and Jason Wyllie signed up with SHARE to be Housing Modern Apprentices in April 2017. Both undertook the CIH level 2 in Housing Practice, coming along to SHARE for 5 days over 10 weeks. Once they had completed this, they started their SVQ level 2 in Housing and the Core Skills which took them up to end of March 2018.
It is a big commitment and it’s been a journey, so what do they have to say about their job and their experience of becoming a Modern Apprentice (MA).
My name is Jason and I have completed my MA in housing. I currently work for West Highland Housing Association and my main roles are to keep the cyclical works up to date, assist with void management and run work in progress reports for our external contractors. The CIH level 2 and SVQ level 2 courses have helped give me the skills and confidence along with my on the job experience to carry out my day to day tasks successfully and confidently.
The qualifications also showed me various other routes I could take in housing. My tutors were really helpful and were always on hand to give me excellent advice on anything I needed and the staff at West Highland were both supportive and encouraging every step of the way.
My name is Leona, I work at West Highland Housing Association and I have now completed my MA in housing at level 2. My main roles at West Highland are meeting customers when they come into the office and helping them over the phone with any queries they may have. I arrange appointments for the contractor to attend and carry out repairs at the properties and arrange appointments for our service
The CIH level 2 and SVQ level 2 Courses helped me improve my skills and confidence within my job and have helped me improve my work on a daily basis. During these courses my work colleagues and tutors were really helpfully and offered me a lot of help and advice if I needed any.
